The Raimund Theater in Vienna has recently been transformed into an incredible world of mystery, passion and absolutely stunning music by the legendary Andrew Lloyd Webber!
On this special night, our Erasmus students were treated to a truly unmissable experience: watching one of the most famous and beloved musicals in the world, The Phantom of the Opera! The story of the Phantom, who falls in love with the young singer Christine, and the spooky, mysterious setting of the Paris Opera House created a truly thrilling and emotional experience.
Even 38 years after its premiere at Her Majesty’s Theatre, The Phantom of the Opera retains its original glamour, captivating audiences with stunning visuals. What remains above all in the memory of the theatre goers is the rise and fall of the legendary chandelier that is inextricably linked to this timeless love story.
Its unique blend of music and drama continues to enchant new generations:
For many of the Erasmus students, it was a magnificent unforgettable experience, as it was their first time seeing a musical of this scale!
"The musical was absolutely amazing, and I felt such a strong connection to it. I left feeling happy and inspired," one student said, still buzzing from the incredible performance.
Another student was brimming with enthusiasm as she shared her thoughts: "I absolutely loved the musical! The music and costumes were incredible! It was such a beautiful evening!" "Each character was portrayed so well, and the actors were so good that you really felt for them." One student described the experience as a moment of pure, childlike wonder.
"I've never seen a play so perfectly thought out! From the cast to the costumes and stage design, it was all absolutely amazing! I totally loved the songs – especially since I didn't expect to enjoy a musical at all! "Even though I didn't understand the language, the expression and staging were so powerful that I felt connected to the story like never before – it was marvellous!" "I finally got to fully experience, the essence of The Phantom of the Opera for the first time."
For some, it was a journey of discovery: “It was my first time going to an opera, and I was absolutely blown away by the incredible characters, the live music, the amazing costumes, and the whole setting. I was so moved by the story that I found myself feeling emotional on several occasions.“ A student, a huge fan of the show, added: "The Phantom of the Opera is so much more than just a musical – it's an incredible, complete experience! It was an amazingly enriching experience, and there's nothing quite like seeing live art!
"We had an amazing time watching this spectacular musical together!"
To sum up, it was a magical evening that showed the remarkable cultural richness of Vienna. The students can't wait to gain many more cultural experiences together!
We'd like to send a big, warm thank you to Sonja Cabak, our wonderful Erasmus Buddy, for organising the event and accompanying the incoming students. Sonja, you are a true European at heart and we are so grateful to you!
