Aim

In this course, the processes, problems, and conflicts resulting from the interaction between humans and the environment are perceived in their representation in the media and comprehended in their socio-cultural, economic, political, and ecological dimensions in a fact-oriented manner. Environmental education can be successful in the European Union only if it is democratically anchored. It is therefore important to orientate the populations appropriately and to involve them in the democratic opinion-forming process. The prerequisite for this is democratic participatory learning and a close environmental relationship between the schools. Overall, with reference to the concept of sustainable development, it should become understandable to what extent democratic environmental education simultaneously requires education in democratic contexts and in direct contact with the environment.

• Intersectionality - the integrative analysis of the interaction of different forms and dimensions of inequality and domination in the context of environmental education (we world)
• Democracy as environmental education
• Analysis of media coverage on the topics of environment and globalisation
• Environmental education as political education in democratic societies
• Consequences arising from the conditions of democratic consensus building for environmental education
• The connection between environmental education and value-based (i.e. conflict-prone) social decisions
• The necessary change in attitude towards the use of natural resources and civilisation waste
• The concept of sustainable development in its connection with democratic environmental education and direct experience of nature using the example of the Sustainable Development Goals
