What can we know about our future topic?

In the RESEARCH chapter, we want to find out.

We look for numbers, data, and facts—which we collect, document, and analyse. We critically examine where this knowledge comes from, when and where it was produced—because knowledge always emerges within a social, cultural, historical, and political context.

In this way, we build a knowledge base that reflects the current state of research. Experts whom we interview, experiments that we conduct, and field trips that take us to meaningful places can support us in this process.

We document our research process in a research journal and visualise it—for example, on a Research Board. This allows us to make connections visible: between people and theories, and between non-human living beings and matter. It helps us recognise the symbiotic networks in which all life on Earth is interconnected and consider the long-term consequences of our interventions.

The RESEARCH chapter is complete when our research stories have been written and illustrated, documented and presented. At the same time, we remain aware that knowledge is always a snapshot in time—and always evolving.
