EXPLORE

What future topic do we want to explore in the Futures Workshop?

In the EXPLORE chapter, we want to find out.

We use an image, a text, or a song as a prompt and explore the thoughts and feelings it evokes in us. What kind of future can we discover in it? For example, in the people, animals, plants, and their ways of living? In the things around us and how we use them? In the places where we and others live? In how we get there and what we do there?

Is this a probable, possible, or plausible future? And what would a desirable future look like? What would a good future look like for people, animals, plants, things, places, and activities? Tell their stories!

We collect all our associations, thoughts, and questions on a poster or in a word cloud. Then we ask ourselves: What do we actually know about this? Why do we believe things are the way we have described and recorded them? Where do these ideas and images of the future come from?

The EXPLORE chapter is complete when we have become aware that our ideas about the future are connected to where we come from and who we are—and when we have decided which image of the future and which future story we want to explore further.

The Futures Stories Lab is part of the research and development project "Learning Future, Teaching Futures". This project is funded by the Province of Lower Austria, Department of Science and Research. Project duration: 1/10/2024–30/9/2027.
