Aim

Peace education is a conscious education for peace. No person should be excluded from education. Education is the basis for immunising a society against social tensions and instability. Consequently, key areas for the further development of democratic societies are considered to be the organisation and implementation of teaching and learning processes. The aim of this course is to understand, by means of a sociological and historical perspective on education, the society in which teachers live and in which they educate pupils in terms of its structure, development, and dynamics as well as its effects and requirements. Sociology approaches education and schools from two angles. One approach deals with the institution and what is referred to as the school system or the educational system. It refers to the life phases of childhood and adolescence and the institutions structuring them in today’s society and promotes theory-based and critical reflection from a scientific–propaedeutic, anthropological, and historical perspective. From a second perspective, sociology is interested in the social value of education.
