Aim
The students deepen their knowledge of literary science and literary history. They reflect on the importance of reading socialisation in the context of first and second language acquisition as well as in the living foreign language English. In this course, they will get to know about diverse methodological–didactic possibilities of teaching literature and culture, especially with regard to children’s and youth literature. They design theory-based action and production-oriented learning scenarios for literary learning and literary classroom discussions.

The graduates ...
- have in-depth knowledge of literary studies and literary history with regard to children’s and youth literature
- are familiar with the fundamentals of reading socialisation and can extend their basic knowledge about reading as a social and cultural practice in the family and in the environment of the pupils, especially in a multilingual context
- are familiar with didactic models and different methods for individualised support in the area of reading in the first, second, and living foreign language English and can apply them in the planning and design of content-integrative lessons
- can compare, discuss, and design learning settings that enable intercultural and transcultural experiences in the encounter with children’s and youth literature
- can compare and discuss didactic models for literary learning and literary classroom discussion in an activity and production-oriented literature lesson in German and in English and take them into account in the conception of corresponding learning scenarios
- can critically reflect on aspects of literary learning (including imagination, literary and linguistic aesthetic perception, development of metaphorical and symbolic meanings, fictionality, narrative and dramaturgical plot logic) and introduce them in literature lessons in a skill-oriented manner.
