Focus

Languages connect people

Aim

Children from diverse cultures meet in a linguistically heterogeneous classroom. By reflecting on their own learning processes and gaining insights into the methods of language acquisition, prospective teachers can prepare themselves for the challenges of a globalised, diverse and inclusive educational world and learn how to accompany children in their educational biography. The basics of the pupils' "contrasting languages" are taught, while diversity competence is promoted in inclusive, intercultural and language-sensitive contexts. Lesson sequences are planned and reflected on, taking into account the pupils' first languages and including multilingual children's literature.

Content
  • Multilingualism as a characteristic feature of globalised, multilingual and heterogeneous societies
  • Concepts of interculturality and transculturality
  • Acquisition of basic knowledge of another language of origin relevant to the teaching profession and the ability to analyse German and this language in contrasting linguistic terms
  • Knowledge of culturally influenced rules, norms, values and symbols
  • Inclusion of the "contrasting languages" of students for self-reflective awareness-raising by analysing their own educational biographies and the biographies of their learners
  • Strengthening intercultural skills and raising awareness of (inter)cultural identities through multilingual children's literature
  • Planning and organising lessons with the inclusion of pupils' first languages
  • Introduction to language observation and language comparison on several linguistic levels
